Alicia Hart was born in England, North London. From a very young age Alicia knew she wanted music to be a big part of her life "I saw James Galway playing the flute on TV when I was 5 years old and was completely in awe". Music did end up playing a very important role in Alicia's upbringing. From the age of 14 she was touring around Europe with different orchestras, studying the flute and piano and was accepted into the Junior Guildhall School of music at the age of 16.
It was at Junior Guildhall where her love of songwriting really took off. "I had never thought of myself as a singer as such, but I always loved to write songs at the piano. Then when I went to Guildhall, I accidentally met Jeffery Wilson (the composition teacher) as I had walked into the wrong room. His composition class was a lot more interesting than the one I was meant to be in and from that day on I was hooked and attended all his classes. He had a way of making music seem magical and inspired me to write and sing my songs to people."
In 2001 Alicia moved to Greenwich to study flute and Jazz singing at the Trinity College of Music. Alicia became very passionate about music from different cultures, especially Latin and African music and this led to her writing and performing her own compositions for flute and drums with djembe player Malo Sonko where she won the coveted Rotary club musicianship award in 2003 before finally graduating with a BMus degree in 2005.
Since graduating, Alicia has performed in and around London with bands that include 'E-mail Special', 'the Jeffery Wilson Band' and the Wayne Martin band. Her love of Latin music took her to live in Cuba for 4 months in 2007 where she learnt from and played with some of Cuba's greatest musicians such as Roberto Fonseca, Javier Zalba and performed at the Havana jazz café with the renowned bassist Omar Gonzalez. Alicia has worked on various projects as a session singer and arranger/composer and is a featured artist on 'Cuba Libre' and 'Cuba Libre 2'. She is currently focusing on her passion of songwriting and is working on her own material with her new band.
